Do you have a noisy water heater and are wanting to fix it so the loud popping, tapping, clicking or knocking sounds from the hot water heater stop? This noise can happen whether you have a gas or electric hot water heater. Preventative maintenance is the key to preventing the water heater from making noises. But now that your hot water heater is making noises, what do you do? Simply drain the scale and sediment from the bottom of your water heater. If you drain some water from your tank every month or so, you'll help keep sediment and scale from building up in the bottom of your water heater and prevent the water heater noises from happening again. Most water heaters have a drain valve located at the bottom of the water heater tank. Simply hook up a hose and drain until sediment no longer comes out of the water heater. If you have never drained your water heater, you may have quite a bit of sediment & scale build-up. Be very careful when draining the water from the tank as the water will most likely be very hot. If you do not have a drain valve on your noisy water heater, it may be time to install a new water heater if you can no longer live with the sounds from your current one.
