How to Replace a Doorbell Switch

How to Replace a Doorbell Switch

Here, we're going to explain how to replace a doorbell switch. Doorbell switches are subject to all kinds of abuse, including weather, which can cause contacts to corrode. To replace your old doorbell switch you will need to purchase a new doorbell switch and have on hand a few simple hand tools. Replacing your switch should take a total of about ten minutes. You should have already tested the doorbell switch to make sure it is faulty. There's no point to replace something that isn't broke. The first step you want to take is to turn off the power to the doorbell switch. Then unscrew the switch from the wall. Note: If you haven't already purchased a new doorbell switch, take the old one with you when you go to buy a new one. Now back to the job at hand. Remove the screws from the back of the old doorbell switch. Make sure that the ends of the wires that are coming out of the wall have a loop formed in them to fit around the screws on the new switch. Place the wires under the terminals of the new doorbell switch, one at a time, and tighten them down securely. Turn the doorbell switch over and test the doorbell. It should now work correctly. Replace the doorbell switch to the wall.
